About Daughters Coffee and Books

Coffee shop and New/Used Bookstore coming in Spring 2025

Daughters Coffee and Books is a coffee shop in Durham, North Carolina. It is listed at 5410 NC-55 AF, Durham, NC 27713, which places it among the local businesses of Durham that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 7 am–8 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Daughters Coffee and Books at (919) 903-6657; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, daughterscoffeeandbooks.com.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 209 reviews, which is a strong result for a coffee shop in Durham and suggests consistent service.

Durham is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Traffic in Durham peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. One of the best bookstores in the area! Good selection of books with a cute coffee shop that has themed drinks (I got the How to Train Your Dragonfruit refresher and it was yummy). There are some spots inside and outside to hang out and all of their bookish stuff are extremely cute. The staff is also wonderful and very helpful!

Great recommendation by AI. I’m glad I went there, it’s a beautiful coffee shop with couches, tables, books etc. Choc croissants are from Ninth street bakery! Overall their coffees were very nice, got a hot latte and cold brew. Ordered ahead from toast but it’s bot super busy and quick turnaround, people are really nice & sweet :)

I’m so glad I discovered Daughters Coffee & Books after I took my dog to nearby Quartet Veterinary Specialty Hospital. What started as a quick stop for coffee turned into two visits in two days. This little shop is exactly the kind of local business I love to find. It’s part coffee shop, part independent bookstore, with a thoughtfully curated mix of new and used books, pastries, gifts, stickers, and other fun finds. I ended up leaving with coffee and a pastry both days, and, of course, a few books. What also stood out were the people working there. The staff was genuinely kind and welcoming both times I visited, which made an already cozy place feel even more special. During a stressful couple of days involving our sweet dog facing surgery, it was a comforting place to spend some time. If it were closer to home, I’d become a regular. I can’t wait for my next excuse to visit.

As a big reader and coffee lover this spot is my heaven. Daughters, while small, has a good selection of books across all genres and I always find something! They also have a lot of cute bookish merch and trinkets that rotate. The coffee shop portion is fantastic with an extensive menu. The beverages I have gotten are always so good and I love the seasonal rotation. They have lots of tables to sit at and it’s a great atmosphere. I also like the various book club and events they host. Perfect for grabbing a great book and a beverage and enjoying some time reading or catching up with a friend!
